I saw and definitely heard Phonoboy live yesterday at the Atomic Cafe in Munich, Germany. Look at the photo and picture a German band singing in French, wearing Raumpatrouille inspired clothing and getting an entire room full of groovy people hopping. They have one song on Radio Oh la la, which is probably not fair, but since they are part of the exceptional modern bands featured, it’s a good thing. And DJing the night was no one other than resident DJ Martin Hemmel.
Here’s a wonderful video of C’est ma vie by Phonoboy, which makes me smile. It’s modern music with an unmistakable retro feel. It was filmed in Munich’s Hofgarten which I recognised from my summer visits there.
On 15 December at the Atomic Café Munich, Germany, DJ Martin Hemmel will be spinning yé-yé, freakbeat, soul & groovy 60s pop sung in French, leading up to a record launch and live performance by Munich’s Phonoboy.
